Ding Dong Knock Knock Knock went the door.
I hurried downstairs to open it. Standing there was an engineer dressed in blue overalls. A bearded mid forty year old. Quite handsome.
Engineer: Hey, I’ve been doing some work in the area on some gas pipes. There seems to be a problem coming from the piping that leads through this house, so do you mind if I come in and take a look?
Me: Oh… umm oh yeah sure. If it’s something that needs to be done then yeah sure. I’ll lead you in. Just through here.
I took him inside my home and he closed the front door behind him. I could sense him eying me up. I was a little freaked out but thought nothing too much of it.
Engineer: So basically I took a quick look at where these pipes run and it seems like one directs upstairs somewhere. Is it ok if I take a look?
Me: Yeah go ahead. You’re the expert
I showed him the upstairs of my home and he was keen to stop in my bedroom.
Engineer: Right, this looks like the place to me. Don’t mind me I’ll just have a little play with the piping underneath these boards and it should be all sorted.
Me: Ok, no problem. Do what you gotta do. I’ll be downstairs if you need anything.
Engineer: Sure thing, sweetie.
Me: what? Huh?
Engineer: I said sure thing, sonny.
I was a little puzzled. I’m SURE he definitely called me Sweetie. Maybe it was just a slip of the tongue. No biggie. I went downstairs and made myself a hot drink. I decided to make him one as well for his hard work.
Meanwhile upstairs, the engineer opens all kinds of draws and cupboards in the bedroom as if he’s searching for something. He finds what he’s looking for and hides it under his overalls.
I took his hot drink upstairs and into the bedroom.
Me: Hey this is for you. It’s just a simple coffee, I’ll put it on the side here.
The engineer looks surprised to see me up here and is shuffling things into his overalls.
Engineer: Coffee? Oh uhh yeah thanks. I was just uhh I think I’m done here actually. All seems good. Very good in fact.
